Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) representative and MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Monday called upon Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI investigation into the tragic death of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of the Warehousing Corporation. Randhawa reportedly took the extreme measure of ending his life due to severe physical and mental harassment inflicted by AAP leader Laljit Bhullar.
In response to the Home Minister's remarks in Parliament, where he stated that the Centre would launch an inquiry if Punjab MPs made a formal request, Harsimrat Badal encouraged fellow MPs from Punjab to also voice their concerns formally to uncover the truth behind this incident.
“Considering the seriousness of the situation and the grave accusations of political meddling, it is crucial that the investigation be handed over to an independent body. Only a CBI inquiry can guarantee an unbiased investigation and restore the confidence of the victim’s family and the general public,” she stated.
In her correspondence to Amit Shah, the Bathinda MP highlighted that Randhawa was an exceptionally qualified individual, possessing degrees in BSc, MSc in agriculture, a PhD, and an MBA, and was a diligent government official overseeing two districts.
“Prior to his death on March 21, he recorded a video outlining the immense pressure and circumstances he was under. It is deeply distressing that a man of such caliber felt compelled to take his own life to shield his children and family from further anguish,” she expressed.
Kaur further emphasized in her letter that the situation reflects a systemic failure, as the officer's repeated pleas for help went unaddressed.
“It has come to light that Dr. Randhawa had alerted both the Deputy Commissioner and the Managing Director of the Warehousing Corporation about his mental distress and pressure, but no substantial action was taken by the Aam Aadmi Party government, reportedly due to the involvement of a powerful minister,” she noted.
The Akali Dal leader pointed out that serious allegations have been made against former minister Bhullar, his father, and an associate in the FIR related to this case.
She disclosed that Randhawa faced severe harassment and coercion to grant a tender to benefit the minister’s father.
“When he resisted, he was allegedly assaulted, humiliated, and threatened. He also faced intimidation from gangsters, which further intensified his fear,” she asserted.
Kaur highlighted the shocking revelation that the officer was reportedly subjected to extreme humiliation, forced to disrobe, and physically assaulted— including being struck on the head with a pistol by the minister and his associates.
“Such alleged actions constitute a blatant abuse of power and indicate a troubling pattern of intimidation that violates fundamental human rights and administrative standards, ultimately driving him to despair,” she concluded.
