Ranchi, Sep 18 (NationPress) The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, engaged with students at the Jharkhand Raj Bhavan on Thursday, sharing insights into the strategic decision-making that led to the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7. This was the first time he disclosed the rationale behind selecting this specific date.
General Chauhan explained that the operation targeted nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., a decision made after thorough analysis.
He stated, “The timing was carefully planned to reduce civilian casualties and property damage, aligning with optimal weather conditions. The clear skies facilitated accurate target engagement,” he noted.
He characterized the operation as a “demonstration of the unmatched capability, intelligence, and collaboration” among the three branches of the armed forces.
“The air force executed pinpoint targeting, and the weaponry delivered with precision. The army and navy maintained their positions effectively from land to sea. This success resulted from meticulous preparation and a profound understanding of distance, angle, and scientific principles,” he remarked.
General Chauhan elaborated that Operation Sindoor utilized a different tactic compared to the Balakot and Uri operations.
“This time, we successfully integrated drone technology. Striking a target 120 km away in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, showcases our technical and professional expertise,”
he asserted.
Significantly, he mentioned that this operation provided concrete evidence of the damage inflicted, including photos and videos, which were not available during the Balakot mission.
Encouraging students to explore a career in the military, General Chauhan expressed that the armed forces offer “diversity, excitement, and an opportunity to serve the nation,” with each branch presenting its unique experiences—from global journeys with the navy to soaring heights with the air force, and conquering formidable challenges with the army.
Reflecting on his own path, he shared his humble beginnings and education at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kolkata, leading to his decision to join the army during his formative years.
He emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “Emotional Quotient (EQ) is more vital than Intelligence Quotient (IQ) for success in the military. No accomplishment is achievable without teamwork.”
General Chauhan also reminded the students that the army's trust and respect among the populace stem from its “illustrious legacy and sacrifices since 1947.”
He urged the youth to play a role in realizing India’s vision for 2047. “The duty of constructing a Viksit Bharat lies not only with the government but also with you. I believe India's future rests within your hands,” he concluded.
Present at the event were Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth.
