Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday, 29 May unveiled a commemorative volume on Operation Sindoor, the three-day military campaign conducted between 7 and 10 May last year in response to the Pahalgam terror attacks. The operation targeted multiple terror hideouts inside Pakistan and struck critical Pakistani air force installations.

What the Book Contains

The commemorative publication brings together the personal testimonies of 100 officers, sailors, airmen, and soldiers who participated in Operation Sindoor. Their first-hand accounts detail how Indian forces carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure reportedly located nearly 100 kilometres inside Pakistani territory and how they degraded Pakistani air force assets to neutralise further threats.

Notably, this is among the first official publications to document the human dimension of the operation from the perspective of the personnel who executed it — offering a rare window into battlefield decision-making, leadership under pressure, and the personal cost of modern warfare.

'The commemorative publication on Operation Sindoor released today goes beyond historical account and captures the personal experiences of our brave soldiers while offering insight into the human dimension of modern warfare where leadership, courage, judgment under pressure and commitment translates strategy into success,' Rajnath Singh said at the release function.

'It is a tribute to those who executed this operation and gives us a connect with the devotion and resilience of our soldiers. Citizens need to draw inspiration from this book and be citizens worthy of the tremendous cost the nation pays to ensure security and maintain sovereignty,' he added.

Singh also described Operation Sindoor as an unprecedented success, stating that India compelled Pakistan to seek a ceasefire within four days of the operation commencing. He also posted his remarks on X, lauding the armed forces and calling the publication a tribute to those who served.

Senior Military Leadership Present

The ceremonial release function in New Delhi was attended by the country's top military brass. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh were all present at the event.

The gathering of all three service chiefs alongside the CDS underscored the significance attached to Operation Sindoor as a landmark tri-services operation.

Operation Sindoor was launched in the immediate aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attacks, which triggered a sharp escalation along India's western front.
