In a meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday, Naidu requested enhanced support from the central government for the all-encompassing development of agriculture and related sectors, aiming to boost farmers' earnings.
During his presentation, the Chief Minister emphasized that the establishment of a Central Agricultural University should be a priority as outlined in Schedule 13 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. He mentioned that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted to the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, with an estimated budget of ₹2,585 crore.
Naidu elaborated on the initiatives and policies implemented for the advancement of the agricultural sector and farmer welfare in the state.
He reported a growth rate of 10.70 percent in agriculture and allied sectors, supported by a five-point action plan focusing on water security, demand-driven crops, agri-tech, food processing, and government aid.
Additionally, the memorandum he submitted requested an extra ₹695 crore for enhancing micro-irrigation under the PM RKVY-PDMC scheme.
CM Naidu advocated for subsidies on the transportation of bananas via rail to minimize losses during transit and improve market accessibility.
He proposed the establishment of a Coconut Park at an estimated cost of ₹200 crore to foster coconut-based industries.
Further, he requested assistance for silkworm rearing facilities under the 'VB G Ram G' scheme, prioritization of scientific research in natural farming, the release of funds under PM-PRANAM, and approval for 10,000 natural farming clusters for 2026–27 under the NMNF.
Naidu emphasized that the central government should cover the maintenance costs of the 5,000 clusters approved for 2025–26. With 40 lakh farmers in the state adopting natural farming, he urged for an additional 20,000 clusters to be allocated over the next five years.
He also requested for Andhra Pradesh to be designated as a national resource state for natural farming.
