Key Takeaways
Gwalior, Feb 27 (NationPress) Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has criticized the opposition Congress party for trying to mislead the public with “unfounded claims” and a “distorted narrative” concerning the interim trade agreement between India and the US, asserting that the interests of farmers are completely safeguarded.
Speaking to journalists in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday, he remarked that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance, “a capable, glorious, prosperous, strong, self-reliant, and resurgent India is being constructed.”
In response to Congress' criticisms of the India-US trade deal, Minister Chouhan mocked the opposition, stating, “Congress leaders have run out of topics to discuss, which is why they are misleading the people.”
When asked about the potential effects of the interim trade agreement on the agricultural sector, Chouhan firmly reiterated that the framework of the trade pact with the US will not endanger Indian farmers. He confidently assured that the interests of farmers have been entirely preserved in the trade agreement.
“I assure you that farmers’ interests will be fully safeguarded. I express this not only as the Agriculture Minister but also as a farmer myself,” Chouhan stated, addressing the rising uncertainty among farmers amid the controversy surrounding India’s interim agreement with the US.
The Union Minister participated in a 'Yuva Samvaad' event at ITM University and subsequently traveled to Jhansi for another program.
It is noteworthy that the Congress, the principal opposition party at the national level, has launched a strong campaign against the ruling BJP and Prime Minister Modi over the India-US trade agreement and has initiated a nationwide movement opposing this proposed trade deal.
To rally public support, the Congress has commenced ‘Kisan Maha Panchayats’ across various regions of the country, with one such gathering held in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, on February 24.
During his time in Bhopal, Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Modi of signing an agreement with the US under “pressure.”
