Bhubaneswar, Jan 23 (NationPress) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's unwavering commitment, vision, and courageous leadership for a free India continues to inspire every Indian. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the three-day Parakram Diwas in Cuttack, the birthplace of Netaji, CM Majhi remarked: "Netaji's influence has been profound, both nationally and internationally. His dedication and fearless leadership for an Independent India will forever be remembered in history."
Majhi expressed pride in Cuttack, noting its fame as Netaji's birthplace, specifically highlighting the Odia Bazar where he spent his formative years.
The Chief Minister further shared that Netaji was revered as a brave, honest, and fearless student in his early years in Cuttack. He criticized certain groups for undermining Netaji's contributions to India's freedom struggle.
"The British acknowledged that without Netaji's armed resistance, they might have prolonged their rule in India. It's regrettable that his life story and struggles have been largely omitted from history books. In the well-known ‘Freedom Struggle of India’ authored by four prominent historians, Netaji's sacrifices are confined to merely five pages out of 600," Majhi asserted.
He highlighted that many other remarkable freedom fighters have also been cast into obscurity.
Majhi declared that the time has come to honor these unsung heroes by acknowledging their significant roles in the freedom movement.
He affirmed that his administration is taking steps to achieve this objective.
On the auspicious occasion of Netaji's 128th birth anniversary, CM Majhi and Speaker Surama Padhi paid floral tributes at Netaji's statue located in the Odisha Legislative Assembly premises.
The Parakram Divas ('Day of Valour') is commemorated annually on January 23 in India to celebrate Netaji's birth anniversary.
Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that this year's Parakram Diwas is hosted in Netaji's birthplace, Cuttack, Odisha. He also expressed gratitude to the people and the government of Odisha for organizing this significant event. Notably, Netaji, born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, has been a symbol of unwavering courage and patriotism for generations of Indians.
