Chandigarh, Feb 28 (NationPress) In a bold move against the drug crisis, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday urged the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to eliminate drug-related issues in Punjab within a three-month timeframe.

The Chief Minister announced that special courts would be established to facilitate swift trials for drug-related offenses and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice.

During a meeting with leading police officials, CM Mann stated, “This marks a pivotal moment as the government of Punjab has embraced a zero-tolerance stance against drugs and is commencing a campaign to combat this issue.”

CM Mann expressed confidence in the Punjab Police's rich legacy of managing challenging law enforcement scenarios and emphasized that with the public's active participation, the state could achieve a drug-free environment.

He reassured that finances would not be an obstacle, pledging full support and collaboration with law enforcement and civil administration for this initiative.

Preventive strategies should be implemented in educational institutions to safeguard the youth of Punjab from the clutches of drugs, CM Mann noted.

He emphasized the necessity to dismantle the drug supply chain and to incarcerate those involved in drug trafficking.

Additionally, CM Mann stated that drug dealers and their families would be denied any subsidies related to free electricity, water, or healthcare, creating a deterrent against such criminal activities.

He mentioned that any required amendments to the NDPS Act for enforcing strict actions against drug traffickers would be communicated to the Union government.

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of transforming the anti-drug initiative into a comprehensive community campaign and urged officers to devise extensive plans.

Referencing the recent demolition of a drug smuggler's illegal property in Narangwal village, he announced plans to construct a library on the common land where the house once stood.

He insisted that success in the drug war hinges on meticulous planning and execution at the grassroots level, calling for proactive engagement from the officers.

CM Mann stated that within three months, drug availability in Punjab should be eradicated, and a monthly evaluation of each SSP's progress in the anti-drug initiative at the district level will be conducted.
