Hyderabad, July 28 (NationPress) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao on Monday criticized the Telangana government for its failure to provide compensation to the families of those who tragically lost their lives in the explosion at Sigachi Industries Limited in Sangareddy district on June 30.
Alongside relatives of some victims, he met with the Additional Collector and condemned the government's negligence in not only failing to return the bodies of the deceased but also neglecting to deliver the promised compensation of Rs 1 crore to each family as declared by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Harish Rao organized a protest march with the victims' families to the district Collector’s office.
The former minister expressed that even after one month post-accident in the Pashamylaram industrial zone, there is still uncertainty regarding the total number of fatalities, as eight workers' remains have yet to be returned to their families.
He reminded everyone that the Chief Minister had pledged Rs 1 crore compensation for each family affected, yet not a single family has received any financial support.
Harish Rao lamented that the families are in deep distress as they were only given charred body parts, which they had to immerse in the river.
He stated that such a catastrophic incident has never occurred in the history of united Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Despite 54 lives lost in this disaster, the state's response has been exceedingly poor and irresponsible, he added.
He emphasized the absence of an official count of the deceased and injured, questioning why the government is withholding details on compensation payments.
Families of the victims are reportedly struggling to obtain death certificates and compensation, incurring travel expenses between Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 from states like Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.
He noted that while the Chief Minister announced Rs 10 lakh for critically injured individuals, they have only received Rs 50,000.
Harish Rao urged the government to provide at least Rs 50 lakh to the critically injured and ensure monthly salary payments.
A petition has been filed by an NGO in the High Court, seeking a directive for the authorities to fulfill the compensation promises made by the Chief Minister.
He also accused the government of attempting to protect the company management, as it has become evident that the accident was a result of their negligence.
He mentioned that Yashwant, son of deceased worker Jagnmohan, stated in his complaint that workers had repeatedly warned the company about the dangers of using outdated machinery, but the warnings went unheeded.
