Congress Owes an Apology for Disrespecting Baba Saheb Ambedkar: Vijender Gupta

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Tuesday sought to unveil the alleged hypocrisy of the Congress party and its disrespectful behavior towards Baba Saheb Ambedkar, claiming that the party has ridiculed and humiliated the Dalit icon.

Speaking to the media, Gupta stated, "The Congress party, which has continuously disrespected, mocked, and shamed Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, is now trying to claim his legacy. The party's attitude has always been anti-Ambedkar. They must render an unconditional apology to the nation for the disrespect shown towards Baba Saheb by its leaders, particularly Pandit Nehru."

Gupta highlighted, "Typically, when a minister resigns, they are given a chance to address the House. However, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was denied that opportunity after his resignation."

In his resignation letter, Ambedkar criticized Pandit Nehru extensively. Drawing attention to this letter, Gupta stated that Baba Saheb expressed, "I was well-educated in finance and industry, yet I was not assigned to any relevant department. Instead, I was appointed to the Law Ministry but was not allowed to perform my duties honestly. I faced obstacles in passing the Hindu Code Bill."

"The government showed a preference for Muslims, failing to provide adequate protection for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). The Prime Minister's attention was primarily directed towards the Muslim community. I do not oppose protections for Muslims, but does only the Muslim community require safeguarding in this country?" wrote Dr Ambedkar, according to Gupta.

Gupta alleged that Congress intentionally concealed Ambedkar's resignation letter from public view. "Had the letter been disclosed, Nehru's reputation would have been significantly tarnished. Congress must clarify why it chose to keep Ambedkar's resignation confidential. This concealment reflects Congress's profound disrespect towards Ambedkar," he asserted.

The BJP leader remarked, "Nehru showed complete apathy towards Ambedkar. In a letter to Dr B.C. Roy, Nehru stated, 'Ambedkar's resignation will have no impact.' How can Congress, which has consistently displayed disdain for Ambedkar, now speak of respecting his rights?"

Gupta continued, "Congress’ efforts to hold press conferences against the BJP are unconvincing, as this is the same party that obstructed Ambedkar from joining the Constituent Assembly and compelled him to resign from the Law Ministry."

Citing historical documents, he mentioned, "Following Ambedkar’s resignation, Nehru wrote to Edwina Mountbatten, expressing joy over Ambedkar's exit from the Cabinet. With such a mindset, Congress lacks the moral ground to discuss honoring Ambedkar today."

The BJP leader added, "The evidence of Congress’ disrespectful behavior towards Ambedkar is irrefutable, and the party must apologize to the nation without conditions."

Gupta stated that the BJP respects all individuals who have genuinely contributed to nation-building, regardless of ideological differences. In contrast, Congress glorifies a single family, neglecting stalwarts like Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, and Ambedkar. He emphasized the BJP’s recognition of Ambedkar's contributions and criticized Rahul Gandhi for continuing the facade of honoring Ambedkar while upholding Congress’ legacy of undermining him.
