Patna, Sep 21 (NationPress) Following a recent incident where insults were directed towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his deceased mother, Heeraben Modi, during the 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' in Darbhanga, a new controversy has surfaced from the rally led by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
The BJP has accused the RJD of allowing derogatory slogans about the Prime Minister's mother during Yadav's public gathering. In response, the RJD has refuted these claims, asserting that the BJP is distributing a manipulated video to damage their reputation ahead of the critical Assembly elections.
On Saturday, the Bihar BJP released a clip on X that captures Tejashwi Yadav speaking at an RJD event. The video, shared by the BJP, features a voice in the background hurling insults at the Prime Minister and his late mother.
“Tejashwi once again permitted the verbal assault on Modi ji's mother during his rally. The more derogatory slogans RJD supporters chanted, the more Tejashwi egged them on. The RJD-Congress have one agenda - to insult mothers and sisters. Their anger has reached a boiling point. Bihar will not forget those who insult a mother. The mothers and sisters of Bihar will retaliate against all insults,” the BJP stated in its post on X.
The Congress party defended its ally, arguing that the BJP's failure to take action against the person responsible for the insults against PM Modi and his late mother reflects poor governance.
In a statement to IANS, Congress MP Imran Masood remarked, “Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home Affairs, should resign first! You cannot apprehend the abuser — your administration is failing. Who is complaining? This is weak leadership. The nation suffers from this weak governance.”
Masood urged citizens to see the “deficiencies of this weak governance,” adding, “Your (BJP) government has agencies like the NIA — so why isn’t strict action being taken? This has turned into a spectacle before the nation; saying, ‘I was abused’; is this all that remains?”
Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Surendra Rajput also criticized the BJP, mentioning that while the party has the right to file a police report, it is “regrettable” that it seeks votes in the name of PM Modi’s late mother.
“It is regrettable that today, the BJP is soliciting votes from the people of Bihar in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother. The mother deserves respect. The mother who is no longer with us. If any worker insults the mother, an FIR should be lodged against him. But the Prime Minister, who is lamenting and asking for votes in her name, is also bringing shame to that mother,” Rajput told IANS.
He further alleged that the people of Bihar would question the BJP’s past behavior, recalling that when the party called for a Bihar Bandh in the name of the Prime Minister’s mother, its own workers insulted the mothers and sisters of Bihar.
Purnea MP Pappu Yadav also commented, stating that insulting anyone’s mother is unacceptable and that those responsible should face consequences. He further connected this incident to “offensive comments” made in the past by political leaders.
Speaking to IANS, Pappu Yadav said, “It is utterly wrong to insult anyone in any event. This unruly conduct by political workers weakens society. Using derogatory language for any mother is profoundly incorrect. Whether it is insulting someone’s lineage by PM Modi or making caste-based comments as mentioned by Anurag Thakur.”
“A mother is honorable; you cannot insult anyone’s lineage, caste, or father. In the viral videos, those who have used such language should be expelled from their party, FIRs should be filed against them, and such individuals should not be spared, because they are not only adversaries of mothers but also of culture and values,” he added.
The BJP had previously criticized the RJD-Congress alliance after a group of youths were heard shouting derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister at the 'Vote Adhikar Yatra', led by Tejashwi Yadav and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, in Darbhanga.
In the midst of the uproar, PM Modi himself responded, stating, “I want to address those who insulted my mother in front of the people of Bihar — Modi might forgive you once, but the land of Bihar and India has never tolerated an insult to a mother.”
