Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mauganj, March 7 (NationPress) - Authorities in Mauganj district, Madhya Pradesh, discovered a decomposed body of an unidentified male near a raw drain overgrown with bushes along the National Highway on Saturday evening, as reported by police.
Mauganj Police Station's Officer, Sandeep Bhartiya, stated that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, indicating it had likely been discarded approximately 10 to 15 days prior. The individual is believed to be a male aged between 30 and 35 years.
A truck driver, who briefly stopped along the highway, noticed a strong odor emanating from the vicinity. Upon closer inspection, he discovered the body lying around 15 meters from the National Highway that links Rewa to Mirzapur-Banaras in Uttar Pradesh via Mauganj.
Immediately, he alerted a nearby shopkeeper, who contacted the police through Dial 112. The body has since been sent for a postmortem examination.
Officer Bhartiya mentioned that the Mauganj police are diligently working to identify the deceased. Information has been disseminated to surrounding police stations, and they are reviewing missing persons reports from Mauganj and the adjacent districts of Rewa and Sidhi.
“We are actively investigating reports of missing persons from nearby police stations, and our aim is to identify this young man. Given the state of decomposition, it poses challenges to identification. We await the autopsy report or any claims made by relatives,” he expressed to IANS.
The location of the body is agricultural land along the national highway outside Mauganj city, with a few roadside stalls and food carts visible during daylight.
Bhartiya remarked that it is premature to conclude how the body arrived at this location, though he did not dismiss the possibility that the crime may have occurred elsewhere, and the body was then disposed of to conceal evidence.
“We are examining the matter from multiple angles, and we are optimistic that the autopsy report will provide additional clarity,” he concluded.
