Key Takeaways
Bhopal, March 17 (NationPress) The lifeless body of a 40-year-old man, who had been unaccounted for over the past four days, was discovered in a waterfall situated near Shahpur Police Station in Mauganj district of Madhya Pradesh, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
A comprehensive search operation was launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with the Shahpur Police team after it was reported that the missing individual had purportedly leapt into the Belauhi waterfall in Mauganj on Monday afternoon, which continued until late evening.
On Tuesday, the search operation resumed with the added assistance of a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). After hours of collaborative efforts among the police, SDRF, and NDRF, they successfully retrieved the body from the 650-feet-deep waterfall.
The deceased has been identified as Sugreev Gupta, a local resident of Bilohi Kala village in Mauganj district, who had been missing since Saturday.
A report concerning his disappearance was filed at the Shahpur police station.
Mauganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Dilip Soni informed IANS that after receiving a complaint from Gupta's family, Shahpur initiated an inquiry and discovered that he had jumped into the Belauhi waterfall.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found the man's slippers in the upper section of the waterfall, indicating that he may have been thrown or fallen into the water. This prompted the commencement of the search operation on Monday.
The search was halted during the night and resumed early Tuesday, coinciding with the arrival of the NDRF team from the nearby Rewa district. “The conditions were challenging due to the waterfall's depth. Divers spent several hours exploring the deep pools and rocky crevices, but their hard work paid off when the body was finally recovered today,” Soni remarked on Tuesday.
He further noted that the Shahpur Police are examining the case to determine if it was a suicide or murder.
“The determination of whether this was a suicide or murder will depend on the outcome of the post-mortem. Meanwhile, the Shahpur Police are considering all possibilities in their investigation,” the SP added.
