Shillong, June 4 (NationPress) The intense search for the missing woman from Madhya Pradesh has entered its 12th day as of Wednesday. This comes after the tragic recovery of her husband's body on May 2.
The couple vanished on May 23 while exploring the scenic Sohra-Cherrapunji region of Meghalaya.
A police representative reported on Wednesday that the search crew, which includes the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), found a raincoat in Mawkma village that bears suspicious stains.
"Forensic analysis will shed light on the raincoat and its markings. Heavy rainfall disrupted our search efforts today," the official stated.
According to reports, Sohra-Cherrapunji, a renowned tourist destination in the northeast, has been experiencing torrential rains since last week, further complicating search operations.
The search teams are employing drones, sniffer dogs, mountaineers, and local volunteers in their efforts. A postmortem of Raja Raghuvanshi was conducted on Tuesday, yet the Meghalaya Police are still awaiting the results.
The couple, Raja Raghuvanshi (29) and his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi (27), hailing from Indore, went missing on May 23. Raja's body was discovered on May 2 after a police drone identified it in a deep gorge near the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang in the East Khasi Hills district.
As of Tuesday, the search teams have also located a bloodstained machete, believed to be an instrument in Raja's murder.
Raja’s brother, Govind Raguvanshi, has called for a CBI investigation into the case, citing the disappearance of his brother’s gold jewelry and wallet, raising concerns of foul play.
"We request that the authorities transfer this case to the CBI for a thorough investigation," he expressed.
Meanwhile, an undated audio clip of a conversation between Sonam and her mother-in-law has circulated widely on social media.
The Meghalaya Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by a Superintendent of Police and supported by four Deputy Superintendent of Police officers.
Reportedly, the newlywed couple from Indore had arrived in Meghalaya on May 20 for their honeymoon. They explored various sites before reaching Sohra-Cherrapunji.
After renting a bike, they visited the beautiful landscapes before their disappearance. Their mobile phones have been inactive since the night of May 24.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs contacted Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma last week to inquire about the search's progress.
Sangma assured, "We regard our tourists as part of our family. The locals of Sohra-Cherrapunji also embrace tourists as family. Numerous villagers are now participating in the search efforts."
"I am continually overseeing the search and rescue operations," the Chief Minister confirmed.
Madhya Pradesh MPs Shankar Lalwani and Sumer Singh Solanki also visited Meghalaya to meet with the Director General of Police, Nongrang, and Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang regarding the ongoing search efforts.
