New Delhi, April 9 (NationPress) In a decisive move to enhance the health sector's accountability, the Secretariat of the Delhi Legislative Assembly has instructed all relevant departments to execute the recommendations laid out by the Committee on Public Accounts, as announced by an official on Thursday.

The directive mandates the Delhi government departments to provide a detailed Action Taken Report by July 31, outlining the progress on implementing the Committee's recommendations as of June 30, according to the official statement.

The recommendations detailed in the Committee’s First Report stem from the audit conducted by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, focusing on Public Health Infrastructure and Management of Health Services for the fiscal year concluding on March 31, 2022.

Signifying a transition from mere audit observations to actionable results, this Assembly directive comes after the formal acceptance of the Report by the House, reinforcing the Assembly's commitment to accountability with measurable compliance.

Speaker Vijender Gupta underscored the broader goal of fortifying public healthcare infrastructure, broadening service coverage, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality medical care for all citizens.

At the executive level, a formal notice has been sent to the Minister of Health in the Government of NCT of Delhi, along with the Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, urging a timely response to the Committee's findings and recommendations.

The report meticulously examines public health infrastructure, service delivery systems, and health service management.

The Action Taken Report must clearly delineate the status of departmental commitments, the advancements made on each recommendation, and specific timelines for completion, to be presented before the Assembly, noted the official statement.

This initiative marks the inception of a structured follow-up mechanism, ensuring that the observations from the Public Accounts Committee lead to tangible administrative actions within a specified timeframe.

Speaker Vijender Gupta emphasized that the efficient provision of health services is pivotal for sound governance and a crucial promise to the people of Delhi.

He remarked that bolstering institutional frameworks through quality infrastructure, the availability of trained health professionals, and ensuring equitable access while embedding accountability are vital for the health system to effectively meet the city’s increasing demands.

The Committee asserted that healthcare transcends mere structures and policies; it is about safeguarding the dignity and welfare of every citizen. Timely interventions, robust healthcare services, and fair resource distribution are essential for establishing an efficient, inclusive, and compassionate health system.

Extending this outlook to policy development, Gupta pointed out the Delhi government's responsibility to ensure its health policies are inclusive and responsive to individuals migrating from other states for livelihood, education, or healthcare, alongside the city’s residents.

Reinforcing the principle of equitable access, Gupta highlighted that affordable and quality medical services should be accessible regardless of a person's state of origin, stressing that enhancing public hospitals, broadening insurance coverage, and investing in preventive healthcare are crucial steps.
