Did Delhi BJP Really Condemn Saurabh Bharadwaj’s ‘Cancer’ Remark on Garbage Disposal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) The President of Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, expressed strong disapproval on Tuesday regarding the comments made by Saurabh Bharadwaj, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party in the national capital. He criticized Bharadwaj's assertion that the ruling party is transforming Delhi into a “cancer capital” by generating new garbage mounds.
Sachdeva stated that Bharadwaj's accusations, which claim that the BJP government is disposing of Bhalswa’s waste in Kirari and thus exposing the Purvanchali community to cancer risks, are designed to incite fear in Delhi through what he termed “political pollution”.
The Delhi BJP chief highlighted that BJP MP Yogendra Chandolia and Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh have consistently reiterated that the waste being transported from Bhalswa to Kirari is merely “inert” waste—specifically, garbage ash—which is employed to fill and elevate 40 hectares of DDA land, akin to methods used in highway construction.
He further accused the AAP leader of making false claims regarding potential underground water contamination due to the usage of garbage ash.
Sachdeva remarked that Bharadwaj’s unsubstantiated and misleading statements are yet another illustration of the AAP’s petty politics, which we vehemently condemn.
He called attention to the fact that Kirari residents have elected an Aam Aadmi Party MLA for the past 12 years, urging Bharadwaj to clarify what improvements Arvind Kejriwal’s government has made in the lives of the 4.5 to 5 lakh residents of Kirari over the last 11 years.
Sachdeva noted that due to waterlogging, nearly 15 children and adults lost their lives in Kirari during 2024 due to drowning or electrocution. However, since the BJP government took charge in 2025, there has been a significant improvement in the waterlogging situation, with almost no tragic incidents reported.
Concerning Sharma Colony, which experienced waterlogging, Sachdeva mentioned that in the past week, the DDA and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi have implemented water drainage solutions by installing 40 pumps.
The Delhi BJP chief cautioned Bharadwaj to reconsider his approach; if he continues with his deceitful and misleading statements, along with mocking remarks directed at Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, it is likely that the Aam Aadmi Party, having already faced defeat in the Assembly elections, will be entirely eradicated in the upcoming 2027 Municipal Corporation elections.
