Delhi BJP names office-bearers across 11 organisational districts
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Harsh Malhotra on Saturday, 27 June announced that the Presidents of 11 organisational districts have released lists of party office-bearers for their respective districts, marking a significant step in the party's organisational restructuring ahead of future electoral cycles in the capital.
Key Developments
The lists cover 11 of Delhi's organisational districts, with three — Outer Delhi, West Delhi, and Najafgarh — yet to be finalised. Malhotra said the announcements for these three districts will be made in due course, in consultation with the incumbent District Presidents.
Notably, the new organisational framework reserves 33 per cent representation for women, in line with the national BJP leadership's stated commitment to women's empowerment. Malhotra also highlighted that the appointments provide substantial opportunity to youth and have strictly adhered to the inclusion of Scheduled Caste office-bearers.
What the Party Said
'We have strictly adhered to the appointment of scheduled caste office bearers too,' Malhotra said. He added that the new organisational set-up will further energise the party structure in serving the people of Delhi.
Samvidhan Hatya Diwas Event
A day earlier, on Friday, Malhotra addressed a Delhi BJP event at the NDMC Convention Centre marking the Emergency — imposed by the then Indian National Congress (Congress) government in 1975 — as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' (Constitution Murder Day). The event, chaired by Malhotra, felicitated 115 Loktantra Senanis (democracy warriors) who reportedly faced hardships while opposing the Emergency.
Malhotra said the occasion serves as a reminder to the younger generation of a period when democracy was suppressed, press freedom was curtailed, and opposition workers alongside ordinary citizens faced severe hardships. 'No matter how powerful a government is, the final decision in a democracy belongs to the people,' he said.
Impact on Delhi BJP Organisation
The appointment drive signals a ground-level organisational push by the Delhi BJP, which returned to power in the capital after a decade-long gap. Structured district-level appointments — with mandated inclusion of women, youth, and Scheduled Caste representatives — are typically a precursor to booth-level mobilisation. The three pending districts are expected to be notified soon, completing the full organisational map of the Delhi unit.
