Delhi Elections: Congress Unveils Second List of 26 Candidates

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) The Congress' Central Election Committee (CEC) convened on Tuesday to unveil its second roster of 26 candidates for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi attended the CEC meeting through video conferencing, while Delhi in-charge Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin and Delhi unit chief Devender Yadav, along with other CEC members, were present at the AICC headquarters.
In a notable development, the Congress and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are not forming an alliance for these elections. The grand old party has nominated Farhad Suri to challenge AAP's Manish Sisodia in Jangpura, and Haji Ishraq Khan has secured a ticket for the Babarpur constituency.
Rajesh Lilothia will be contesting from the SC reserved Seemapuri seat.
Additional candidates include Sushant Mishra from Rithala, Hanuman Chauhan from Mangol Puri (SC), Satish Luthra from Shakur Basti, Satender Sharma from Tri Nagar, and Asim Ahmed Khan from Matia Mahal. Rajendra Ramdhari will contest from Moti Nagar and JP Panwar from Madipur (SC). The party has also nominated Pradeep Kumar Upmanyu from Delhi Cantt and Vineet Yadav from Rajinder Nagar.
Following the CEC meeting, Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin addressed reporters, stating, "Earlier discussions took place during the screening committee meeting. Now, a thorough discussion on each seat has occurred in the CEC meeting. Many seats have been approved by the CEC. A few seats are still pending, and we will announce the details soon."
When questioned about prominent candidates for key seats in Delhi, he emphasized, "Every one of the 70 seats holds significance for us. We aim to contest vigorously across all constituencies."
Previously, the Congress had released its first list of 21 candidates on December 12, featuring ex-MP Sandeep Dikshit from New Delhi, setting the stage for a contest against AAP's national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
The Delhi Congress convened a meeting on Monday to discuss manifesto development for the upcoming elections, with city unit chief Devender Yadav asserting that the party does not make unachievable promises.
Sources suggest that the manifesto may include commitments for Rs 3,000 monthly aid for women and 400 units of free electricity.
Yadav informed the press that the party has engaged with the public regarding the manifesto's content.
"We believe in making promises that can be kept. The Congress does not engage in empty rhetoric," Yadav concluded.
In related news, former AAP MLAs Asif Ahmad Khan and Devinder Sehrawat joined the Congress on Monday.
Yadav reiterated that since Arvind Kejriwal's tenure as Chief Minister, the Congress has maintained that both the BJP and AAP are collaborating to mislead the citizens of Delhi with unfulfilled promises.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 2025.
