Alka Lamba from Congress to Challenge CM Atishi in Kalkaji Constituency

New Delhi, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Delhi Congress has nominated former legislator from Chandni Chowk, Alka Lamba, to contest the Kalkaji seat against the AAP candidate and current Chief Minister Atishi. This decision sets the stage for a captivating electoral battle in the South Delhi constituency, which is largely home to low-income residents and middle-class Punjabi families.

Lamba, who also serves as the president of All India Mahila Congress, initially joined the AAP during its inception in 2012, following an anti-corruption movement. She previously won a seat as an AAP legislator from Chandni Chowk.

On December 24, the Congress' Central Election Committee (CEC) revealed its second list of 26 candidates for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

The first list of 21 candidates was disclosed on December 12, featuring former MP Sandeep Dikshit from New Delhi, setting up a contest between him and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

Prior to the second list, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi participated in the CEC meeting via video link, while Delhi in-charge Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin and Delhi unit chief Devender Yadav, among other CEC members, were present at the AICC headquarters.

With the Congress and the ruling AAP not forming an alliance for the Delhi Assembly elections, the party has fielded Farhad Suri to challenge AAP's Manish Sisodia from Jangpura. Haji Ishraq Khan has been nominated for the Babarpur seat.

Rajesh Lilothia will compete from the SC reserved seat, Seemapuri.

The Congress has also nominated Sushant Mishra from Rithala, Hanuman Chauhan from Mangol Puri (SC), Satish Luthra from Shakur Basti, Satender Sharma from Tri Nagar, and Asim Ahmed Khan from Matia Mahal. Rajendra Ramdhari will contest from Moti Nagar, and JP Panwar from Madipur (SC). The party has put forth Pradeep Kumar Upmanyu from Delhi Cantt and Vineet Yadav from Rajinder Nagar.

The Delhi Congress unit is also preparing to unveil a manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections. Its city unit chief Devender Yadav stated that the party does not make promises it cannot keep.

Sources suggest that the manifesto may include a proposal of Rs 3,000 per month for women and 400 units of free electricity.

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 2025.
