Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V.K. Saxena, has given the green light for the establishment of 272 new positions within the Revenue Department, which includes two District Magistrates and eight Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), in response to the formation of new districts and sub-divisions, according to an official announcement made on Tuesday.
The newly authorized posts consist of two Additional District Magistrates (ADMs), six Sub-Registrars, 16 Tehsildars/SO, 22 Naib Tehsildars, 42 each of Senior Assistants and Junior Assistants, 52 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), and various roles in Accounts, Planning, DSS, and Stenography, as outlined in the statement.
Prior to the addition of these two districts, the Revenue Department had 1,553 sanctioned positions across 11 districts. With the addition of the 272 new posts, the total number of sanctioned positions across 13 districts has now reached 1,825.
On December 11, 2025, the Delhi Cabinet sanctioned the reorganization of Revenue Districts in the National Capital, expanding from 11 to 13 districts, along with a corresponding increase in Sub-Divisions from 33 to 39 and the establishment of 39 Sub-Registrar offices. This reorganization aligns the Revenue Districts with the zones of the MCD, NDMC, and Cantonment Board.
The restructuring has been executed in accordance with the Cabinet's approval and is consistent with the directives from the Deregulation Cell of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as well as the Government of India’s initiative for Ease of Living, according to the official statement.
This reorganization has significantly increased the statutory obligations of the Revenue Department, which now includes expanded judicial and administrative responsibilities under BNSS, 2023. The department will also engage in intensified field-level operations for land record management, disaster management, election duties, public welfare programs, issuance of certificates, and management of year-round festivals, as detailed in the statement.
The approval from Saxena for these additional posts is expected to bolster field-level administration, alleviate staffing shortages, and enhance service delivery to the public, as indicated in the statement.
Given that the Revenue Department maintains the highest public engagement, these enhancements aim to directly improve operational efficiency and alleviate administrative challenges.
As part of a digital initiative to close the digital gap, the government has integrated e-District services with the Common Service Centre (CSC) network.
Residents will no longer need to visit multiple government offices for minor tasks, as over 7,000 active CSC centres throughout Delhi will provide local services, as stated by the government.
This initiative will offer approximately 75 e-District services, including income, caste, and residence certificates, as well as services related to social welfare, food and civil supplies, labor, and education.
Each service will be available for a nominal fee of Rs 30, ensuring transparency and equitable access. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described this initiative as a historic move that will prevent financial exploitation by private cyber cafes, ensuring affordable, simple, and transparent government services across the national capital.
