New Delhi, Nov 10 (NationPress) The Delhi Police apprehended an auto-lifter on Monday who was implicated in numerous vehicle thefts throughout Delhi and neighboring states. The suspect, named Anil, hails from Sikandarabad in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, and was caught following a thorough investigation.
A report from the Central District Police indicated that on October 29, a Thar SUV owned by a citizen of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, was reported stolen from South Patel Nagar, Delhi. The vehicle's owner had arrived in Delhi on October 28 to visit a friend residing in a paying guest accommodation in South Patel Nagar. He parked his vehicle outside the premises that evening, but upon returning the next morning, he discovered the SUV was missing. Despite attempts by the complainant and his friend to locate the vehicle in the vicinity, no leads were found.
Consequently, a case (E-FIR No. 029772/25) under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was filed at the Ranjit Nagar Police Station, prompting an investigation to commence.
Recognizing the gravity of the crime, a specialized team, including Sub Inspector Sudhir, Head Constable Amit, Constable Chand, and Ct. Subham, was formed under the oversight of SHO Ranjit Nagar, Inspector Tribhuvan Negi, and the overall guidance of ACP Patel Nagar, Sunil Kumar Gupta.
During the investigation, the team meticulously scrutinized various CCTV footage and technical leads, including the location data from an Apple iPod left inside the stolen Thar. Through continuous monitoring, the police tracked the stolen vehicle’s movement toward Sikandarabad in District Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.
A covert operation was executed in Sikandarabad, where the team pinpointed a rented property suspected to be connected to the accused. Although the stolen Thar wasn't immediately located, the team maintained surveillance over the premises. On October 31, when the suspect returned, the police successfully arrested Anil, the primary suspect and a known auto-lifter.
The investigation later expanded to the Siwan district in Bihar, where the stolen vehicle was thought to have been sold. The team examined CCTV footage from the region, revealing Anil selling the stolen Thar to two individuals. One drove the vehicle away towards the highway, while the other escorted Anil through narrow lanes to the railway station.
The registration number of a motorcycle used by the duo was traced to its registered owner. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the motorcycle had been sold about a year prior to Muhammad Kayum. Local informants and technical surveillance were employed, resulting in the recovery of the motorcycle used in the crime. Further inquiries revealed that Kayum had been missing from his home for the past two days.
During extensive questioning, Anil admitted to selling the stolen Thar in Siwan, Bihar, with the assistance of his accomplice Raju (currently evading capture), for Rs 2.5 lakh. He disclosed that he received Rs one lakh in cash as an initial payment, with the remaining amount to be settled later.
Police records indicate that Anil has a significant criminal background, with previous involvement in multiple cases across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Currently, efforts are underway to recover the stolen Thar SUV and apprehend co-accused Raju, along with those who received the stolen vehicle in Bihar.
