Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, unveiled a plan on Monday to merge Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital into a comprehensive "super medical hub" inspired by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
In her tweet, CM Gupta stated, "The integration of GTB Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital into a super medical hub modeled after AIIMS will enhance bed availability, streamline testing and referral processes, and minimize waiting times, ensuring that every patient receives prompt, efficient, and improved care."
On the previous day, she elaborated on her vision for the advancement of Delhi's public healthcare system.
"The key government medical institutions in Delhi, including Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTB), Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI), and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH), are being transformed into an autonomous, empowered entity akin to AIIMS. This initiative will facilitate access to superior, modern, and specialized medical services for millions of patients in Delhi and its neighboring areas.
"The quality of care will be elevated, services will be more efficient, and high-quality healthcare will be more accessible to the general populace than ever before. This initiative marks a significant step toward a robust and dependable healthcare system in Delhi."
This proposed integration is part of the government's strategy to tackle the uneven distribution of patients among hospitals.
For example, Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, which has a sanctioned capacity of approximately 650 beds, is currently utilizing only about 250 beds, leaving nearly 400 beds idle. In contrast, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, with a sanctioned capacity of around 1,400 beds, is currently accommodating over 1,500 patients due to overwhelming demand.
By consolidating these three pivotal hospitals into a unified medical institution, the Delhi government aims to promote better coordination, maximize resource utilization, and enhance patient care efficiency.
This initiative is anticipated to shorten wait times, improve access to specialized care, and establish a modern healthcare hub capable of serving millions of residents in Delhi and its surrounding regions.
