New Delhi, March 1 (NationPress) Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Saturday challenged the BJP's failure to address the deficiencies in Delhi's healthcare system during the prior AAP-led administration.

He also denounced the procrastination in confronting illegal immigration, despite the BJP's control over law enforcement in the national capital for the past decade.

A recent CAG report on health services, presented in the Delhi Assembly on Friday, unveiled significant lapses in the execution of the Mohalla Clinics initiative. It underlined the absence of ICU facilities along with shortages of personnel, medications, and essential medical apparatus in government hospitals.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta introduced the central government auditor's report titled 'Performance Audit of Public Health Infrastructure and Management of Health Services', which spans from 2016-17 to 2021-22. She referred to it as the “dark truth” behind the health model of the previous government.

In response to the findings, Dikshit told IANS, “We have been stating this consistently -- there is corruption in Delhi’s healthcare system. We have brought this issue to the attention of the Lieutenant-Governor as well.”

He raised several issues regarding the operations of Mohalla Clinics, questioning their funding, procurement systems, and the lack of adequate oversight.

“Where does this funding originate? Who provides the equipment? There is no system established to determine which doctor sees which patient. They certify patients independently, claim to have treated a specific number of individuals, and receive payments based on that. What qualifications do the doctors at Mohalla Clinics possess? How are they chosen?” he inquired.

Dikshit also criticized the BJP for their inaction, despite their authority over the Delhi Police.

“Why didn’t the BJP take action earlier? The party held power at the Centre, and the Delhi Police operated under them. Why didn’t they reveal these issues earlier? Were they complicit, or did they wish for AAP to stay in power?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Friday, instructed Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the Delhi Police to enhance efforts in identifying and deporting Bangladeshi and Rohingya illegal immigrants, labeling them as a “threat to national security.”

In response to this directive, Dikshit accused the BJP of negligence over the last decade, asking, “What has the BJP been doing for the last 10 years? The Delhi Police has been under their control all this time. Were they incapable of devising an action plan?”

He further highlighted that Delhi is a small territory, making it simpler to monitor sensitive areas.

“How many Bangladeshis and illegal immigrants have they identified thus far? The Home Minister should be accountable for this shortcoming,” he added.
