DMRC MD Vikas Kumar inspects Blue Line stations in overnight review
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director Vikas Kumar conducted a night-long inspection of multiple stations along the Blue Line corridor on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, reviewing infrastructure upgrades and passenger amenity works across seven key stations. The inspection, which stretched from midnight to 5 am IST, underscores DMRC's practice of executing enhancement works exclusively during non-operational hours to avoid disrupting daily commuters.
Stations Covered and Works Reviewed
The inspection began at Dwarka Sector-21 station at midnight and concluded at Noida City Centre station at 5 am on Saturday. Stations reviewed in between included Dwarka Sector-14, Dwarka Mor, Rajouri Garden, Karol Bagh, R K Ashram, and Indraprastha, according to Anuj Dayal, DMRC Principal Executive Director.
Kumar reviewed station remodelling works, installation of new escalators, realignment of Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates, and other passenger-centric infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving the overall commuter experience.
What the Managing Director Directed
Kumar instructed officials to ensure that public convenience and safety remain the highest priority during all developmental and upgradation works. He also stressed the importance of quality, timely execution, and minimising inconvenience to commuters throughout the enhancement process.
Dayal noted that such detailed night inspections are carried out regularly after operational hours to closely monitor progress without disrupting metro services — a standard DMRC protocol for works on live corridors.
Context: Blue Line and Broader Expansion
The Blue Line is one of DMRC's busiest corridors, connecting Dwarka in southwest Delhi to Noida City Centre and Vaishali in the east, serving lakhs of commuters daily. Upgrades along this corridor are part of a wider infrastructure push across the network.
Notably, last month DMRC commenced construction at Central Secretariat Metro Station for the Central Vista Corridor under Phase V(A), an extension of the existing Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg. Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal was present at that occasion alongside senior Ministry and DMRC officials.
Central Vista Corridor: Key Details
The Central Vista Corridor spans 9.913 km with nine underground stations — Shivaji Stadium, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.
The Central Secretariat station is set to become a triple interchange station, seamlessly connecting the new Magenta Line extension with the existing Yellow Line and Violet Line — a facility expected to significantly benefit government employees and commuters accessing the Lutyens' Zone and surrounding administrative districts.
With both Blue Line upgrades and the Central Vista Corridor progressing simultaneously, DMRC's infrastructure push is entering one of its most active phases, with commuter impact expected once works are completed.
