Local Doctor Arrested for Chilling Murder of Wife in Madhya Pradesh
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal/Sagar, March 23 (NationPress) In a disturbing turn of events, law enforcement in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, has apprehended Dr. Nilesh Kurmi, also referred to as Patel, a local physician hailing from Garhakota, alongside two collaborators, Ramkrishna Patel and Shubham Patel, for the premeditated murder of his wife, Seema Kurmi.
The 38-year-old victim was discovered incinerated inside their vehicle close to Chanatoriya on the Sagar-Garhakota highway around 4:00 a.m. on March 21. What was initially perceived as a tragic accident has since been revealed through rigorous questioning to be a carefully orchestrated crime fueled by marital strife and an extramarital affair.
In an interview with IANS, Lokesh Singh, the additional superintendent of police in Sagar, stated that Nilesh admitted to his actions. He confessed to having strangled Seema during a late-night quarrel at their home and subsequently staged the incident by dousing her body with flammable material, possibly petrol, before setting the vehicle on fire in a secluded area, while he and his accomplices remained unharmed, the officer elaborated.
The underlying motive revolved around ongoing conflicts regarding his relationship with a younger woman who frequently visited his clinic, a situation that Seema had uncovered through photographs and suspicious late-night activities, prompting him to eliminate her to cover up the evidence of strangulation that his medical training would have made difficult to hide in a hospital environment.
Seema lost consciousness and showed no signs of life, inciting panic in the culprit. Aware that taking her to a medical facility would expose ligature marks on her neck and reveal the crime, particularly due to his medical expertise, he devised a plan to obliterate the evidence, as explained by the officer.
Nilesh contacted his tenants, Ramkrishna and Shubham Patel, claiming that Seema had suffered a heart attack and needed to be urgently taken to the hospital. With their assistance, he placed her lifeless body into the vehicle, the officer further clarified.
Their 11-year-old daughter stirred during this process, and Nilesh told her that her mother was unwell and they were taking her for medical attention, instructing her to lock the door from the inside. The couple's 9-year-old son remained asleep in another room, while their eldest child was away at a hostel. While heading towards Sagar, Nilesh called Seema's father and brother-in-law to inform them of her declining condition. Around 4:00 a.m., near Chanatoriya, he stopped in a remote location, poured flammable liquid over his wife's body, and ignited the car.
He and his accomplices then distanced themselves and watched as the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Initially, the accomplices helped in moving Seema without grasping the full reality, but they witnessed the arson and chose not to intervene or report it to the authorities.
Under rigorous interrogation, they ultimately admitted their involvement in concealing the crime, according to the ASP.
The motive traces back to Nilesh's affair with a young woman from a nearby village who often visited his clinic. Their relationship developed through phone conversations, and Seema grew suspicious due to his late-night absences and secretive discussions.
Investigators believe these tensions drove him to plot her murder. During preliminary questioning, Dr. Nilesh provided conflicting accounts, at times alleging an accident or a CNG kit explosion. However, evidence from the crime scene, including the disproportionate burning of Seema's body relative to the vehicle and the absence of injuries to others, contradicted his statements.
His prior training with the BSF was noted by police, contributing to his cunning strategy in attempting to mislead investigators.
The Sanodha Police Station is overseeing the investigation, with further questioning ongoing and the post-mortem report pending to confirm strangulation as the cause of death prior to the incineration.
