Doda, Dec 27 (NationPress) The Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing a significant enhancement in rural connectivity through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase-IV, First Batch.
The central government has approved approximately 31 new road sections for the district, facilitating crucial infrastructure development in this predominantly mountainous area.
In an interview with IANS, Executive Engineer PMGSY Doda, Zakir Hussain Zargar, mentioned that following the conclusion of the tendering process, 26 road projects have been assigned to contractors under the PMGSY Division Doda.
Construction is already underway on 20 roads, and work on the remaining six roads is anticipated to commence shortly, he noted.
Zargar also conveyed optimism, stating that the central government is likely to approve Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for villages that remain unconnected, facilitating further expansion of the road network.
He emphasized that nearly 70 percent of Doda district is characterized by hilly terrain, making road construction historically challenging.
The lack of adequate road connectivity has caused immense difficulties for residents of remote villages, particularly in accessing healthcare, education, and markets; however, the situation now shows improvement under the PMGSY initiative.
Efforts are ongoing to ensure that every village gains road access, significantly enhancing the quality of life for local inhabitants.
The positive impact of these road projects is already evident. Villagers express satisfaction following the approval of the roads, noting that they previously faced transportation challenges, especially during emergencies and adverse weather conditions. The new roads have made travel significantly easier and safer, and access to essential services has greatly improved, they report.
Sajad Malik, a local resident, shared with IANS that enhanced road connectivity will greatly benefit both residents and traders in adjacent regions.
He further asserted that improved roads will ease the transportation of goods, thereby boosting local trade and creating new economic opportunities for the area.
According to him, the PMGSY roads not only enhance mobility but also play a vital role in the overall development of the district.
The PMGSY Phase-IV projects in Doda are becoming a lifeline for remote villages, helping to narrow the gap between rural and urban areas and paving the way for long-term economic and social progress.
