Kolkata, May 29 (NationPress) Humayun Kabir, a professional engineer, has been taken into custody in Bangaon, located in the North 24 Parganas district, after allegedly attempting to stab individuals at a local Madrasa, as per a statement released by Dinesh Kumar, the SP of Bangaon, on Wednesday night.
Kumar revealed that the accused hails from Memari in the East Burdwan district of West Bengal.
Following his arrest late on Wednesday, a crowd gathered at the Bongaon Police Station in a bid to take the accused from police custody.
Kumar emphasized that the suspect is mentally unstable and clarified that there is no communal motive behind the attack.
“This evening, a mentally unstable individual stabbed four people in a fit of rage within the Bongaon Police Station area. The police responded quickly, apprehending the suspect. A tumultuous group then attempted to seize the arrested suspect from our custody and vandalize the reception area. The police swiftly quelled the mob and detained 10 individuals. We are actively searching for others involved in the violence at the police station,” Kumar stated.
He also mentioned that the four injured parties are currently receiving medical attention.
“The situation remains under control, and there is absolutely no communal angle to this incident. We urge everyone not to believe in any rumors. Those spreading false information will face strict legal action,” Kumar added in his statement.
