Kolkata, May 29 (NationPress) Humayun Kabir, a professional engineer, was apprehended in Bangaon, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, after he viciously stabbed four individuals within a local madrasa. Officials have revealed that he had committed the grave act of murdering his parents just a day prior.
The incident unfolded late Wednesday evening when Kabir attacked those present at the madrasa.
Investigators have uncovered that he had killed his parents in Memari, situated in East Burdwan district, on Tuesday night, with their bodies discovered the following morning.
After fleeing the scene of his parents' murder, Kabir made his way to Bangaon, where he launched an attack within the madrasa.
Authorities from Memari have reached out to their Bangaon counterparts to relay details about the situation. A dedicated team of investigators from Memari has also arrived in Bangaon.
Despite the Bangaon police's claims that the accused suffers from mental instability and that there is no communal motive behind the incident, many are questioning what could have driven him to travel approximately 110 kilometers from Memari to Bangaon to carry out such violent acts.
Moreover, there are concerns regarding the large mob that attempted to storm the Bangaon Police station in an effort to free Kabir after his arrest. Locals speculate that unless Kabir had connections in Bangaon, it would have been improbable for such a significant crowd to gather so quickly at the police station.
In a statement released on Wednesday night, Bangaon Police District Superintendent Dinesh Kumar confirmed the stabbing event, the arrest of Kabir, and the mob's attempts to rescue him from police custody.
“An incident occurred in the Bangaon PS area this evening where a mentally unstable individual stabbed four persons in a fit of rage. The police promptly responded and apprehended the accused. Following this, an agitated mob attempted to seize the arrested person from police custody and vandalized the reception desk. The police dispersed the crowd and detained ten individuals, with ongoing raids to capture others involved in the violence at the police station,” Kumar's statement indicated.
Kumar also firmly stated that there was no communal motive behind this occurrence, warning that those spreading rumors would face legal repercussions.
