Chandigarh, March 12 (NationPress) In a commendation of Panjab University (PU) for its efforts in fostering academia-industry collaboration, President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday urged policymakers to intensify their focus on university-industry partnerships and prepare for the future.
During the convocation ceremony held at PU in Chandigarh, she noted that over the past 140 years, the university has emerged as a significant hub of higher education.
"This institution has carved out a niche for itself in academics, sports, research, and cultural endeavors," she stated.
She expressed delight at the university winning the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy a remarkable 17 times.
According to her, this achievement reflects the commitment and determination of the university’s athletes.
Students Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh have brought immense pride to the nation by securing medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The President emphasized that the university should offer application-oriented education.
"Education ought to equip students for their life journeys. The upcoming times will be demanding, and the spirit of competition will only intensify. Hence, it is crucial for every student to maintain a positive outlook and possess an advanced skill set to tackle these challenges," she noted.
"Acquiring and continuously enhancing knowledge of emerging technologies and the ability to utilize them effectively will be vital for success," she added.
President Murmu reminded students that it is a source of pride for them to study at such a prestigious university, which has produced numerous eminent individuals including a President, Prime Minister, Nobel laureates, and leaders who have made significant contributions across various fields.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Murmu was honored at a civic reception organized by the Punjab government in Mohali, located nearby.
During her address, she remarked that through the blessings and inspiration of the Gurus, Punjab has been a birthplace for martyrs and revolutionaries.
She added that pivotal chapters of the nation's freedom struggle have unfolded on Punjabi soil.
President Murmu highlighted that Punjabis have set numerous examples of dedication and service.
She noted that the langar service of gurdwaras worldwide is accessible to everyone, regardless of background.
According to her, people globally have learned the value of langar seva from the Punjabi community.
She also remarked that the contributions of Punjab's brave soldiers to our armed forces are immensely significant.
