Hubballi (Karnataka), Dec 27 (NationPress) The passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has left me profoundly saddened. As a distinguished economic expert and a Prime Minister for a decade, he significantly transformed India's economy,” expressed former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai in his condolence message on Friday.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, with his strong ties to global institutions such as the World Bank and IMF, played an instrumental role in protecting the nation. His tenure as the Governor of the Reserve Bank and his initiatives greatly aided in the execution of numerous developmental projects across the country, establishing a solid groundwork for India’s economic advancement, Bommai remarked.
“Dr. Manmohan Singh was a humble and principled politician. The nation has suffered the loss of a visionary leader who consistently placed the welfare of the country above all. His numerous forward-thinking decisions yield benefits that we can see today,” he added.
“In contrast to many, he was not a publicity-seeking leader but an astute politician who often made difficult and sometimes unpopular choices for the greater good of the nation. His tenacity and intellectual brilliance were demonstrated on countless occasions. He established a solid foundation for India to compete with nations like China, America, and Europe,” Bommai emphasized.
“During the administration of then-Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and then-Finance Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, there were no political conflicts between them. Their transparent and collaborative approach facilitated transformative changes within the existing system. Exceptional accomplishments frequently stem from those we consider accidental leaders, as they are not bound by political limitations,” Bommai noted.
Dr. Manmohan Singh introduced globalization and liberalization in India, leading to an influx of foreign investments that pulled the country from an economic downturn. Small, medium, and large enterprises received considerable support, and economic discipline was instilled within the government.
“The implementation of the Right to Information Act empowered citizens with the ability to access information. A man of impeccable integrity and a decisive leader, Dr. Manmohan Singh's India-US Nuclear Deal is recognized as a significant achievement. His dedication and sincerity marked his contributions to the nation. His character remains a role model for all politicians,” Bommai stated.
“His passing represents an irreparable loss to the nation. May God grant eternal peace to his soul and offer strength to his family and supporters to cope with this loss,” Bommai lamented.
