Chandigarh, Feb 5 (NationPress) No formal agreement has yet been established between India and the United States concerning duty-free trade related to dairy products or the agricultural sector.

Farmers are being intentionally misled regarding this matter. This assertion was made by the BJP’s Punjab spokesperson, Pritpal Singh Baliewal, during a media briefing.

Baliewal accused the Opposition of disseminating false information by asserting that the proposed trade agreement would be detrimental to Punjab’s agriculture and dairy industries, while in fact, no conclusive proposal has been drafted yet.

He remarked that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is fostering a climate of fear in the state without any substantiating evidence.

Baliewal challenged AAP, stating that if they possess any version of such an agreement, it should be publicly disclosed.

He highlighted that AAP Rajya Sabha MP and distinguished industrialist Rajinder Gupta has already labeled the agreement as advantageous, while Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora has also expressed that it serves Punjab’s interests.

Simultaneously, several AAP leaders are denouncing the agreement as harmful to Punjab and its farmers. He indicated that these conflicting statements reveal a lack of clarity within AAP itself.

“In reality, AAP is opposing the agreement publicly merely for political gain,” Baliewal stated, adding that “if AAP genuinely believes the agreement is detrimental to farmers, it should formally register its opposition with the Central government through its own governance.”

He emphasized that “it is inappropriate to engage in politics while keeping farmers uninformed.”

Encouraging farmers, Baliewal urged them to resist falling victim to misleading propaganda. He asserted that “if any trade agreement is formalized in the future, it will be constructed with the interests of farmers and dairy producers in mind, leading to increased investment and income in the agricultural sector.”

Point of View

The claims surrounding the India-US trade agreement highlight the need for clear communication. As the nation engages in dialogue about agricultural policies, it is essential to prioritize factual information over political rhetoric. The farmers' welfare must be at the forefront of these discussions.
