Hyderabad, Jan 26 (NationPress) Three individuals sustained injuries when two boats caught fire in Hussain Sagar Lake on Sunday night. The incident took place during a fireworks display on the boats, part of a celebratory event.

Both vessels were completely engulfed in flames. At the time of the incident, there were seven people aboard the two boats, with three suffering severe injuries.

The other passengers managed to escape without injury. The injured individuals were transported to local hospitals. One of them, who was critically injured, was admitted to Gandhi Hospital, while the other two were taken to a separate medical facility.

The boats, owned by the Tourism Department, ignited during a firecracker display as part of the Bharat Mata Maha Harati event celebrating Republic Day.

This event was organized by a local group, attended by dignitaries including Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, who represents the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency. They were among several VIPs present at People's Plaza, located on the lake's shore.

Following the cultural segment of the program, two boats moved to the center of the lake for the fireworks display. The VIP guests had departed after the cultural performances.

One boat caught fire during this display, and the flames quickly spread to the second boat. Spectacular flames were visible leaping from both vessels.

The loud explosions and ensuing fire created panic among attendees at People’s Plaza and the numerous others gathered around the lake, a favored gathering place in the city.

Tension escalated among the large crowd enjoying the Republic Day festivities along Necklace Road, NTR Marg, and Tank Bund. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire service teams initiated rescue operations.

Due to the incident occurring in the lake's center, immediate action to extinguish the fire was delayed, which burned for over an hour.
