New Delhi, May 27 (NationPress) Four individuals from Bangladesh, including a minor, were arrested in Delhi, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals were identified as Mohd. Asad Ali, 44, Nasima Begum, 40, Naim Khan, 18, and Asha Moni, 13. They all come from Farooq Bazar Ajwatari P.O., Gongarhat, Phulbari Kurigram, Bangladesh.
This operation is part of a significant crackdown on illegal migrants as initiated by the Union Home Ministry, targeting the deportation of illegal residents in India. The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi's South West district acted on intelligence and managed to apprehend these individuals, as stated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the South West District, New Delhi.
Upon receiving tips that illegal Bangladeshi migrants were present in the Delhi Cantt area, a team led by Inspector Ram Kumar, I/C AATS/SWD, under the guidance of ACP Ranvir Singh, approached the suspected individuals and requested to see their identification and documentation.
During questioning, the individuals could not provide valid Indian documentation and confessed to being illegal migrants from Bangladesh who had entered India approximately 12 years ago by crossing a river.
They possessed only photocopies of Bangladeshi identification, specifically a national ID card from their home country, as noted in the police statement.
Following their apprehension, the necessary legal procedures were followed, which resulted in their deportation through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
On May 22, India appealed to Bangladesh to expedite the nationality verification process to facilitate the return of numerous illegal immigrants residing in India.
This month, Delhi Police have also detained six Bangladeshi women in various locations across the national capital, dismantling a human trafficking ring that was operating between the two countries.
Authorities confirmed that the detained women were living in India without proper documentation and are also set for deportation.
Earlier this month, at least five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested and subsequently expelled by security forces in Assam's South Salmara district for illegal entry into the country.
