Srinagar, April 3 (NationPress) In response to claims from the family that the individual fatally shot during an encounter in Ganderbal district of J&K on March 31 was merely an innocent civilian, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has directed a magisterial investigation into the occurrence. The J&K Home Department issued a statement indicating that the District Magistrate of Ganderbal has been instructed to finalize the inquiry regarding the encounter in Arhama village within a week and present the findings. Following a coordinated search and cordon operation by the army, J&K Police, and other security agencies on March 31, it was asserted that a terrorist had been neutralized during the encounter.

According to a message posted on X from the L-G's office, "The inquiry will scrutinize all facets related to the incident to ensure that justice prevails."

A directive from the Under Secretary of the Home Department to the District Magistrate of Ganderbal stated that a thorough and unbiased magisterial inquiry should be conducted to determine the facts surrounding the death of Raashid Ahmad Mughal, child of Gull Zaman Mughal.

The District Magistrate has been tasked with completing the investigation within a week and reporting back to the Home Department.

The family of Mughal has maintained that he was a civilian with no links to terrorism.

In a statement made on Thursday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed, "The family's claims should not be outrightly dismissed. At the very least, this encounter warrants a transparent and timely investigation, with the facts made public."

"Any efforts to obscure or postpone the announcement of a probe will only undermine credibility, which serves no one's interests."

PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has voiced serious concerns regarding the allegations from the family of the deceased. She has called for an independent examination into the entire situation that led to the individual’s death.
