Srinagar, July 13 (NationPress) Jammu and Kashmir's Lt Governor Manoj Sinha stated on Sunday that while the nation's Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of expression, this does not grant immunity to individuals who glorify terrorism through their speeches and statements.
Speaking at a gathering in Baramulla where he presented job orders to victims of terrorism, L-G Sinha remarked, "While the Constitution upholds freedom of expression, it does not permit those who glorify terrorism to evade consequences."
"Anyone attempting to promote terrorism for their political gain will face accountability. Enough is enough. Kashmir has endured excessive bloodshed, and it's time to alleviate the suffering of those whose pain has long been ignored under the shadow of terrorism," he emphasized.
Following the cowardly attack in Pahalgam on April 22, the overwhelming condemnation from the local populace has convinced me that the community is no longer supportive of terrorism; they are eager for progress, education, peace, and a brighter future," he added.
He noted that 193 grievances from terror victims have recently surfaced, many dating back to the 1990s. He referenced the assassination of Justice Ganjoo and the Wandhama Ganderbal massacre.
"In 61 cases, there were no FIRs filed, and victims were denied land and compensation," he disclosed.
Later, he expressed on X, "The plight of these families was intentionally concealed. No one came to comfort them. Everyone was aware that Pakistan-backed terrorists were involved in these brutal killings, yet justice remained elusive for countless elderly parents, wives, brothers, and sisters. I am dedicated to ensuring these families receive the justice, jobs, recognition, and support they deserve after enduring years of hardship. This marks a historic move towards acknowledging and honoring the many innocent civilians in J&K."
“The administration will actively engage with all families who have awaited justice for decades, ensuring job placements and rehabilitation arrangements for their livelihoods.
Helplines have been established in districts to gather grievances from terror victims, receiving numerous complaints from the 90s as well. In many instances, FIRs were not filed, lands were encroached upon, and properties were destroyed. I assure the public that the perpetrators will face consequences. This is not merely an administrative effort; it is a moral obligation,” he assured the victims' families.
The L-G's office announced on X, "Justice has finally arrived! Appointment letters have been distributed to the next of kin of terror victims. These families, long neglected and forgotten, have suffered in silence for decades. The narratives of their loved ones, viciously slain by Pakistan-backed terrorists, are now being acknowledged."
Emotional scenes unfolded as mothers blessed L-G Sinha and daughters showed deep respect, marking a heartfelt occasion as he held their hands with paternal care.
Breaking protocol to connect with the victims of terrorism, whose voices were silenced by fear, L-G Sinha mingled with the crowd, bowing before mothers and affectionately patting the heads of the victims' daughters.
In concluding his address, the L-G affirmed that surviving family members of terror victims would be granted government jobs, while justice would be pursued for those killed by terrorists.
He recited a couplet at the end of his speech: "There are some who will attempt to instill fear in your mind. You are alive this moment, and this moment exists because of you. Bad times will pass. Live steadfastly. Whatever happens will unfold in time."
