Gurugram, March 26 (NationPress) The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has ramped up its efforts against encroachment by initiating the first-ever enforcement operation on Sheetla Mata Road on Wednesday, as per officials.

Numerous complaints had been lodged by residents concerning unlawful constructions along this vital route, which were also obstructing traffic flow during peak hours.

Shyamal Misra, CEO of GMDA, had instructed that prompt actions should be taken to eliminate the widespread encroachment on Sheetla Mata Road, a major thoroughfare in the city.

The GMDA's Enforcement Wing, led by District Town Planner (DTP) R.S. Batth, in collaboration with Mohit Sharma, Nodal Officer for Streets for People Gurugram, and other officials from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), executed a large-scale anti-encroachment operation on Wednesday, dismantling illegal structures and reclaiming public land.

Over 50 police personnel were also on hand during the operation.

The entire stretch from CRPF Chowk to Sheetla Mata Mandir was addressed, where illegal tin sheds set up by 70 shopkeepers were demolished.

The materials and products displayed outside their shops, along with other encroachments, were cleared to restore access to the road.

Furthermore, advertisement boards and tin sheds that were placed on the GMDA's box drains were also dismantled.

"Prior notifications were sent out for two days to inform all shop owners to remove all encroachments along the 30-metre wide master sector roads of GMDA. It was discovered that nearly a five-metre area on both sides of the road had been unlawfully occupied by shopkeepers. In today's operation, all unauthorized structures were demolished to clear public spaces and ensure government land remains free of encroachment," stated GMDA DTP.

The Authority is planning to transform Sheetla Mata Road into a model road, which will include constructing footpaths and drains to facilitate safe pedestrian movement and improve the drainage system.

During a meeting held on Tuesday, Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar also instructed the relevant departments to tackle the waterlogging problem that arises on this route during the monsoon.

Moreover, MCG has installed grills on the central verge of this road and ensured the availability of adequate street lighting for the benefit of the public.

"We will conduct regular checks and inspection visits to closely monitor the road, ensuring that there is no re-encroachment. Strict measures will be implemented against violators who fail to comply with the law," added R.S. Batth.
