New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) In a significant move, the Centre revealed on Tuesday that it has increased the daily distribution of 5 kg LPG cylinders for migrant workers across each state. This adjustment effectively doubles the quantity provided compared to prior allocations.

The decision is rooted in the average daily demand recorded during March 2-3, 2026, allowing an increase beyond the previously set limit of 20 percent as noted in the correspondence dated March 21. These 5 kg cylinders will be allocated strictly for the benefit of migrant labourers in collaboration with public sector oil marketing companies as per the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Since March 23, approximately 7.8 lakh of the 5 kg free trade LPG cylinders have been sold, with more than 1.06 lakh units sold nationally on Monday, a notable increase from the daily average of 77,000 in February, according to the statement.

In addition, public sector oil companies have conducted around 1,300 awareness camps over the past four days, selling more than 10,000 cylinders during these events.

Despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions impacting the overall LPG supply, the availability of domestic LPG cylinders remains stable, with no reports of shortages at distributorships. The statement confirmed that online bookings for LPG have surged to 96 percent of total orders, while deliveries authenticated through delivery authentication codes (DAC) have increased to about 90 percent to mitigate diversion risks.

The overall allocation of commercial LPG has risen to approximately 70 percent of pre-crisis levels, including a 10 percent allocation tied to specific forms.

Since March 14, around 86,439 metric tonnes of commercial LPG, translating to over 45.5 lakh 19 kg cylinders, have been sold, with more than 3.4 lakh units sold just on Monday.

A specially appointed three-member committee comprising Executive Directors from Indian Oil, HPCL, and BPCL is actively coordinating with state authorities and industry representatives for effective commercial LPG distribution.

Additionally, efforts to combat hoarding and black marketing of LPG persist nationwide, with over 4,300 raids conducted, resulting in the seizure of more than 1,200 cylinders on Monday.

States are encouraged to facilitate new PNG connections for both domestic and commercial consumers. All refineries are functioning at full capacity, maintaining sufficient crude inventories, while petrol and diesel stocks are also adequate. To support domestic consumption, the production of domestic LPG from refineries has been ramped up, as stated.

The Government is committed to ensuring the consistent availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG, urging citizens to refrain from panic buying or unnecessary LPG bookings. They are encouraged to utilize digital platforms for booking LPG cylinders and to visit distributors only when essential. Furthermore, households are advised to consider alternative fuel sources such as PNG, induction, and electric cooktops whenever possible. In light of the current circumstances, all citizens are requested to take measures to conserve energy in their daily practices.

Finally, individuals are warned to be vigilant against misinformation and to rely solely on official channels for accurate updates.
