New Delhi, April 6 (NationPress) – The Government announced on Monday that more than 18 crore domestic LPG cylinders have been effectively distributed to households since March 1, 2026, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
During a press briefing at the National Media Centre in the capital, high-ranking officials reassured citizens of consistent fuel and food supplies, highlighting that there are sufficient buffer stocks of rice and wheat available to satisfy public demand.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, “Domestic LPG cylinder deliveries remain steady, with over 18 crore cylinders reaching households since March 1.”
In terms of energy supply, domestic LPG continues to flow smoothly even amidst disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Online order placements now constitute 97 percent of LPG requests, and 90 percent of cylinder deliveries utilize authentication codes to prevent diversion of supplies.
“The total allocation for commercial LPG has been raised to approximately 70 percent of pre-crisis levels, which includes a 10 percent reform-linked allocation,” the ministry noted.
Since March 23, around 6.75 lakh of 5-kg free trade LPG cylinders have been sold, as stated by the ministry.
Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) oil marketing companies have executed over 100,000 raids, confiscating more than 52,000 cylinders and implementing strict measures against hoarding and black marketing.
Moreover, the government is prioritizing natural gas supply to sectors such as domestic PNG, CNG, fertilizer plants, and commercial sectors, with plans to enhance supply to fertilizer plants to 90 percent of average usage and an extra 10 percent gas for city gas distribution networks.
The government confirmed that there are adequate buffer stocks of rice and wheat to ensure uninterrupted distribution through the Public Distribution System (PDS) and to address any emergency needs.
“The Government is vigilantly monitoring the food security landscape in light of ongoing developments in West Asia,” the ministry emphasized.
“There are sufficient buffer stocks of rice and wheat available to guarantee adequate supplies for the Public Distribution System (PDS) and to meet any urgent requirements,” it concluded.
