While meeting with a delegation from the Gaddi community, led by the newly appointed Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Wool Federation, Manoj Kumar, the Chief Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by the Gaddi community and pledged to address their concerns.
He emphasized that the government aims to ensure that sheep and goat herders receive fair compensation for their labor, thereby bolstering the rural economy.
In a show of empathy, Sukhu noted that the government had significantly increased compensation for families affected by the 2023 monsoon disaster through a special relief package.
This initiative raised financial assistance from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000 for the loss of sheep, goats, and pigs.
He assured that further financial support would be provided to assist the livestock-rearing community.
Earlier, H.P. Wool Federation Chairman Manoj Kumar expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and committed to working diligently to fulfill the expectations of the Chief Minister.
He stated that his appointment is a point of pride for the entire Gaddi community in the Chamba and Kangra districts. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh was also in attendance.
Sheep farming is a crucial livelihood for many small and marginal farmers in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in tribal regions.
The famous Rampur Bushari and Gaddi breeds are known for their exceptional carpet wool production in India.
As a reliable source of income for shepherds through the sale of wool, animals, meat, manure, milk, and skins, the Himachal Pradesh State Wool Federation plays a vital role in empowering pastoralists and protecting wool growers from exploitation by middlemen and traders.
