Gandhinagar, Aug 7 (NationPress) Gujarat has emerged as a frontrunner among Indian states, achieving a remarkable milestone with over five lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’. This initiative has significantly contributed to the state's comprehensive growth by empowering these women financially.
Lakhpati Didi represents a flagship program initiated by the Central government aimed at empowering women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The objective is to help these women earn a minimum annual income of ₹1 lakh and achieve self-sufficiency.
Following this achievement, the Bhupendra Patel government has set an ambitious target to create ten lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’, striving for enhanced self-reliance among women.
As per a government announcement, 10.74 lakh women have been identified as potential ‘Lakhpati Didis’ across the state.
To assist these women, the Ministry of Rural Development has launched a Digital Aajeevika Register that documents each woman’s current livelihood activities, resources, expenditures, and income. This data is utilized to provide tailored support, including training, financial aid, and marketing resources.
The state government has also initiated measures to ensure the successful rollout of the Lakhpati Didi Yojana. A total of 124 Master Trainers have been appointed at the taluka level, successfully training over 10,000 Community Resource Persons (CRPs). These CRPs play a crucial role in mentoring women involved in SHGs, offering guidance and support throughout their entrepreneurial journey.
The entire initiative is meticulously monitored through the Digital Aajeevika Register, ensuring timely training, financial backing, and marketing assistance for women entrepreneurs.
The successful execution of the Lakhpati Didi program has deeply impacted the lives of women across Gujarat.
One inspiring example is Ankitaben Pinalbhai Patel from Shekhpur village in Mahuva taluka of Surat. In 2024, Ankitaben took up the role of a drone pilot, using drones for agricultural spraying. Within just one year, she earned ₹2 lakh.
Previously, she contributed to her family’s income through farming.
Reflecting on her transformative journey, Ankitaben states, “Now, I don’t have to rely on anyone. We receive regular orders, and the income is stable. My husband is supportive. This opportunity has greatly improved our family’s financial situation.”
