Gurugram, Jan 28 (NationPress) The public transport framework in Gurugram is set to be enhanced through a variety of new initiatives, including Metro expansions, a new bus terminal, and road development, as stated by a senior official.
Ajay Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram, provided insights into the ongoing development projects aimed at improving connectivity and roads, which are scheduled to commence this year.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, he mentioned the upcoming tender for the construction of an elevated roadway at the Manesar bus terminal, along with a flyover at Bilaspur Chowk on the Gurugram-Jaipur National Highway.
Additionally, Jail Road will undergo widening from the Sohna Expressway, pending necessary approvals from the Forest Department; construction is set to begin shortly.
When discussing the project designed to link the Old City with the Metro, Kumar noted that the appointment of a General Consultant is nearing completion.
Subsequently, tenders will be issued, addressing any concerns from relevant departments regarding the Metro route alignment, with solutions being coordinated collaboratively, the Deputy Commissioner stated.
Providing updates on the road construction and widening between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, he explained that the National Highways Authority of India has requested an estimate for utility relocation on this route, with ongoing cooperation among all relevant departments.
The Deputy Commissioner further revealed that the development of a new bus terminal on the Dwarka Expressway is progressing, with the transfer of 15 acres of land to the State Transport Department by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation in its final stages.
Following this, the construction phase will accelerate, Kumar affirmed.
He highlighted that Gurugram is recognized as a Millennium City and a hub for healthcare. Consequently, the government is making significant efforts to improve health services for the residents of Gurugram through accessible and affordable means.
Kumar added that the construction of a medical college, being jointly developed by the Mata Sheetla Devi Shrine Board, Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG), and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), is progressing without interruption this year.
He reported that about 65% of the medical college's construction is complete, and the remaining work is expected to conclude by August.
Additionally, the pre-construction phase for a civil hospital is underway, with tenders being invited by the Central Public Works Department, set to be opened next month.
Kumar pointed out that this year is pivotal for Gurugram in terms of education and spirituality.
He noted that the construction of the grand Mata Sheetla Devi Temple in Gurugram is approximately 70% complete and is anticipated to open its doors to devotees in October.
At the same time, one of the four new academic blocks at the Gurugram University campus has been finalized, with completion of the remaining three scheduled for March, June, and November.
Kumar also mentioned the ambitious plan for the world's largest jungle safari in the Aravalli Mountains, emphasizing that this project will bolster the ecosystem and invigorate tourism in the area.
He stated that this initiative would also support the Aravalli Conservation Campaign.
The Forest Department is currently engaged in designing and preparing the detailed project report for this venture.
Kumar addressed the measures being taken to tackle waterlogging issues in the city ahead of the upcoming monsoon, noting that GMDA and MCG are making necessary arrangements through ongoing meetings, with substantial work completed on major identified areas.
Simultaneously, efforts are underway at several other identified locations to fully resolve the issue, he added.
