New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is embarking on a two-day journey to Maharashtra, with his schedule on Saturday focused on honoring the legendary Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his 345th death anniversary.
HM Shah will first visit the memorial of Jijamata, the cherished mother of Shivaji Maharaj, in Raigad district around 10:30 a.m. Following this, he will head to the historic Raigad Fort, the former capital of the Maratha Empire, to participate in a series of commemorative events.
This visit carries profound cultural and political importance. At Raigad Fort, HM Shah is set to offer floral tributes at the samadhi (memorial) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, paying homage to the lasting legacy of one of India's most revered historical figures.
Later in the day, HM Shah is also anticipated to visit Sutarwadi for a lunch meeting at the residence of Sunil Tatkare, the NCP state president and Member of Parliament from Raigad.
The invitation was personally extended by Tatkare and accepted by Shah, a move that has stirred political interest amidst the ongoing tensions within the ruling Mahayuti alliance.
HM Shah arrived in Pune on Friday evening and was welcomed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. His visit is timely, considering the escalating internal discord within the state’s ruling coalition, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), particularly concerning the unresolved issue of the guardian ministership for Raigad district.
The power struggle began earlier this year when Deputy CM Eknath Shinde opposed the appointment of NCP leader Aditi Tatkare, daughter of Sunil Tatkare, as Raigad’s guardian minister.
This situation led to Fadnavis suspending appointments for both Raigad and Nashik districts, further straining relationships within the alliance.
