Mumbai, March 13 (NationPress) Maharashtra Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Azmi on Thursday emphasized the need for harmony and mutual respect as the festival of Holi coincides with the Ramzan Friday prayers on March 14, encouraging individuals to celebrate peacefully.
The convergence of this Hindu festival and the special Friday prayers during Ramzan has sparked political discussions regarding schedule adjustments to maintain public order.
In various neighborhoods, local communities have proactively altered timings to prevent clashes. Some mosques have extended their prayer hours, while certain Holi processions have been shortened or rescheduled.
In an interview with IANS, Azmi highlighted the significance of India's "Ganga Jamuni" culture, where diverse communities live together in harmony.
"Holi is upon us, and so is the Jumma prayer of Ramzan. Every individual has the right to celebrate their own festivals. In this nation, we coexist like brothers," he stated.
Concerning potential disputes, he urged individuals to exercise restraint. He noted that the Jumma Namaz during Ramzan holds great importance for Muslims.
"The Jumma Namaz during Ramzan is typically offered in larger mosques, not smaller ones. In such cases, no one should forcibly apply colors on others to incite or provoke conflicts. I also appeal to my Muslim brothers that even if someone throws color on you, let it slide and move forward," he advised.
In the meantime, Azmi is facing legal challenges regarding his comments defending Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, leading to multiple FIRs against him.
He submitted an anticipatory bail application in the Mumbai Sessions Court, which granted him conditional relief. According to the court's ruling, he is required to appear before the investigating officer and must not interfere with the evidence.
On Thursday, he visited the Marine Drive police station to cooperate with the investigation.
Regarding the case, he mentioned, "I only need to mark my attendance for three days. Concerning the evidence, how can I tamper with something already recorded on video? My statement serves as the evidence, and it’s all captured on video, so how can anyone distort it?"
