Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) In a decisive move, state-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) announced on Friday the suspension of 10 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distributors due to alleged malpractices, emphasizing its firm stance against irregularities within its distribution system.
Using the social media platform X, HPCL disclosed that it took stringent measures by suspending the distributors identified for misconduct.
"Our zero-tolerance policy is aimed at ensuring accountability and prompt disciplinary actions wherever necessary," the company stated in an official announcement.
This action aligns with the government's intensified efforts to address irregularities and misinformation surrounding the availability and distribution of LPG.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas urged states and Union Territories to enhance proactive communication to combat rumors and misinformation, which have led to panic buying and hoarding in various regions.
The ministry highlighted that the proliferation of misinformation and fake news about the availability and pricing of petroleum products, including LPG, has surged on social media, further straining the distribution network.
Moreover, it called upon states and UTs to conduct daily briefings at senior levels and ensure the timely sharing of accurate information through social and electronic media, reassuring citizens of the adequate availability and smooth supply of LPG.
The government also instructed authorities to maintain strict action against malpractices such as hoarding and black marketing.
HPCL reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumer interests, promoting transparency, and ensuring reliable service delivery.
In a follow-up post, the PSU company expressed its serious concern regarding malpractice instances by dealers and confirmed that strict actions have been initiated against those breaching established guidelines.
"Our zero-tolerance policy does not allow any actions that compromise customer interests, transparency, or service integrity. We are enforcing accountability and implementing necessary disciplinary measures wherever required," the statement concluded.
