Shastri noted that public apprehension and various misconceptions regarding the HPV vaccine are significant hurdles. To tackle these challenges, media workshops and awareness initiatives are being organized.
The Health Department aims this vaccination drive at adolescent girls aged approximately 14 years, with the goal of providing them protection against cervical cancer. The campaign will span the next three months in the district, with an emphasis on vaccinating as many girls as possible.
In a conversation with IANS, District Immunisation Officer Y.B. Shastri stated, "This is the HPV vaccination initiative initiated by Prime Minister Modi, and it will last for three months. Our target is to vaccinate 9,084 adolescent girls who have reached 14 years of age."
He encouraged residents to dismiss any misconceptions regarding the vaccination, highlighting that the primary purpose of any vaccine is to bolster the body's defenses against diseases.
This vaccine is known to enhance the immune system by nearly 99.7%, effectively preventing cervical cancer with minimal side effects.
He further explained that the HPV virus is a leading cause of cervical cancer, which is the second deadliest cancer type in the nation. Administering this vaccine offers protection for up to ten years.
