India Mourns the Loss of a Visionary Leader: Vice President Dhankhar Remembers Dr. Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday conveyed his heartfelt sorrow at the loss of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who departed from us at AIIMS at the age of 92. He remarked, 'India has lost a leader of towering intellect and a statesman par excellence.'
In a post on X, the Vice President noted, 'I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, a former Prime Minister and an esteemed economist who dramatically reshaped India’s economic landscape. A recipient of the Padma Vibhushan award and the chief architect of India’s economic liberalization in 1991, he expertly navigated our country through a pivotal transition, creating new avenues for growth and prosperity.'
'As the Vice-President of India, I had the honor of engaging in meaningful and insightful discussions with Dr. Singh at his home. His deep understanding of the economy, gentle nature, and unwavering dedication to India's advancement will remain etched in my memory forever.'
Vice President Dhankhar expressed, 'With Dr. Singh's passing, India mourns the loss of a leader of towering intellect and a statesman par excellence. His legacy will continually influence Bharat's growth path. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and numerous admirers during this challenging time.'
The confirmation of Dr. Singh's passing was announced by AIIMS New Delhi.
'With great sadness, we announce the passing of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was receiving treatment for age-related medical issues and experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26. Immediate resuscitative measures were initiated at home. He was transported to the medical emergency unit at AIIMS. Despite all attempts, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at 9.51 p.m.,' the hospital stated.
Dr. Singh served as the Prime Minister of the country from 2004 to 2014 and was renowned for his transformative influence in guiding India’s economy during a significant period of liberalization.
He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters. Funeral arrangements are anticipated to be shared soon, with the nation's leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expected to participate in honoring his memory. Dr. Singh's passing signifies the conclusion of an era in Indian politics. His leadership and legacy will continue to motivate future generations.
Earlier this year in April, Manmohan Singh concluded his tenure in the Rajya Sabha, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge commending his extensive parliamentary career.
Manmohan Singh rose to prominence as the nation’s Finance Minister during the government of P.V. Narasimha Rao from 1991 to 1996, implementing sweeping reforms that revolutionized the economy.
