India Unveils Its First Eco-Friendly Propulsion System Developed by DRDO

Mumbai, Dec 11 (NationPress) The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced the launch of the groundbreaking iBooster green propulsion system on Wednesday.
Engineered specifically for satellites weighing between 100–500 kg, the iBooster system has been developed by the Mumbai-based deep-tech startup Manastu Space Technologies. This system facilitates essential operations such as orbit raising, station-keeping, and deorbiting.
The system utilizes a proprietary fuel based on hydrogen peroxide, ensuring enhanced performance, safety, and sustainability, significantly better than traditional toxic fuels and other high-cost alternatives.
This achievement marks the conclusion of four years of rigorous research and development, backed by DRDO's Technology Development Fund (TDF), highlighting the increasing involvement of Indian startups in strengthening national defense and space capabilities.
Key innovations include a hydrogen peroxide-based fuel that is safer and environmentally friendly; an optimized thruster design for improved efficiency and precision; and a high-temperature catalyst that guarantees seamless ignition and endurance in space.
“The accomplishment of Manastu Space illustrates the transformative power of Indian startups in deep tech. Their innovation aligns with DRDO’s mission to bolster India’s defense and satellite capabilities,” stated DRDO.
“Delivering this technology to DRDO is a significant achievement for us. It demonstrates our dedication to developing greener, safer, and highly efficient solutions for space exploration. This partnership emphasizes the strength of innovation and collaboration in enhancing India’s aerospace capabilities,” remarked Tushar Jadhav, Co-founder of Manastu Space.
In addition, Manastu Space is preparing for a pioneering space test aboard an upcoming PSLV mission by ISRO, showcasing the system’s capabilities on an international platform. This mission signifies India’s leadership in creating sustainable space technologies.
Founded in 2017 by Tushar Jadhav and Ashtesh Kumar, Manastu Space Technologies is at the forefront of sustainable space innovation. The company specializes in propulsion systems and satellite technology, tackling critical challenges related to space safety and sustainability.
