Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Indore, Feb 18 (NationPress) As unsettling revelations continue to surface in the Indore MBA student murder case, a neighbour of the suspect has disclosed disturbing details regarding the events leading up to the tragedy and the moment it was uncovered.
The incident has sent shockwaves throughout Madhya Pradesh, with police asserting that the young woman was allegedly strangled by her classmate and boyfriend, who has been identified as Piyush Dhamnotiya.
The neighbour expressed disbelief that the accused could perpetrate such a horrific act. He noted that the woman frequently visited the accused, and there were no signs indicating anything was amiss in Dhamnotiya’s conduct.
Munnalal, a nearby resident, reported that the incident only came to light when an overpowering foul odor began to fill the area. Shortly after, police and the woman’s father arrived at the scene.
“There was a strong foul smell emanating from there... then the police arrived. The woman’s father came. I don’t know what transpired inside. I never thought he would commit murder,” Munnalal remarked.
He added that the woman visited the accused almost daily, and Piyush’s demeanor appeared unremarkable.
“She would come every day, and Piyush’s behavior seemed normal. But when he committed the crime, I didn’t hear a thing,” he expressed, astonished at how silently the alleged murder was executed.
In the meantime, police took the suspect to the crime scene on Tuesday to recreate the incident. During this recreation, law enforcement reconstructed the timeline of events inside the rented room where the young woman was reportedly killed.
Manish Mishra, Station House Officer of Dwarkapuri Police Station in Indore, stated that this reconstruction was necessary to confirm the details provided by the accused during questioning.
“We verified the information the accused shared during interrogation by bringing him back to the crime scene. We have retrieved rope and tape that he used to bind her. A knife has also been seized. Additionally, we recovered a cloth that the accused used to wipe his hands after sustaining injuries. All this evidence has been collected,” Mishra elaborated.
Authorities noted that during the recreation, the accused was interrogated regarding the timing and manner of the incident. Investigators confirmed that numerous items, including rope, tape, and a knife, were found at the site, further solidifying the case against him.
According to police, Piyush Dhamnotiya fled to Mumbai shortly after the murder. He was located and arrested in Andheri on February 14. The woman's body was discovered earlier on February 13 in a rented room in Indore, just days after she was reported missing.
Law enforcement officials stated that the suspect was brought back to Indore for further questioning, during which several alarming details surfaced.
During the interrogation, police also uncovered a letter purportedly written by the accused after the incident, in which he expressed suicidal inclinations. The letter reportedly contained the statement, “I too want to die and be hanged.”
Preliminary investigations indicated that the murder was motivated by suspicion. According to police, the young woman had been communicating with some classmates, and the accused allegedly read those conversations, leading him to question her fidelity and ultimately plan her murder.
Investigators revealed that both the victim and the suspect were pursuing an MBA at the same college. The victim was reported to be around 24 years old, while the accused is approximately 22. Police added that both belonged to the same community and their families were aware of their relationship.
Reports indicate that the accused allegedly pressured the victim into a physical relationship. When she refused, claiming she was unwell, he reportedly forced himself upon her. After the assault, he allegedly bound her hands and feet with ropes found in the apartment and blindfolded her, telling her he wanted to give her a “gift.”
Investigators stated that when the woman resisted again, the accused reportedly stuffed cloth into her mouth and sat on her chest, choking her until she lost consciousness.
Furthermore, police sources claimed that when he realized she had stopped breathing, he allegedly stabbed her near the chest with such force that the knife broke.
However, the brutality did not conclude there. According to investigators, the accused stayed in the room even after the murder. He allegedly left, purchased beer from a shop, returned, and drank beside the corpse.
During interrogation, police allege that the accused confessed to sexually assaulting the corpse before changing clothes and fleeing the scene, leaving the body unclothed in the room.
On the day she was reported missing, the student had left home, stating she needed to correct her Aadhaar card. Her father reportedly dropped her near the Collectorate.
Later, she contacted her younger sister, informing her that she would be attending a birthday party with her classmate Piyush Dhamnotiya and would return by 11 p.m.
When she failed to come home, her family became concerned, leading to a missing persons report. The case took a tragic turn when her body was eventually recovered from the rented room.
Police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and additional evidence is being gathered. The accused remains in custody and is being interrogated regarding the complete sequence of events.
