Jamnagar (Gujarat), July 11 (NationPress) The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), situated in Jamnagar, Gujarat, is elevating India's stature on the world stage by advancing the Ayurveda and Unani medical systems.
The institute is not only celebrated within India but has gained international recognition for its comprehensive education and research in Ayurveda, drawing in students from across the globe. To date, individuals from 65 countries have embarked on their Ayurvedic studies at this esteemed institution.
Professor Arpan Bhatt, who has been affiliated with the institute for 45 years, shared insights with IANS on Friday. He highlighted that the institute provides training in diverse scientific disciplines pertinent to Ayurveda. In addition to research, it also offers clinical treatments. Various Yoga courses are available, and the institute operates a 300-bed hospital that accommodates numerous patients seeking Ayurvedic care daily.
Commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Professor Bhatt noted that thanks to the Prime Minister’s initiatives and the support from the Government of India, the institute has been designated as an Institution of National Importance. Annually, around 15 to 20 international students enroll in various programs. The Indian government remains committed to fostering the institute, which has welcomed students from over 65 nations, with current attendees from 12 to 15 countries, including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Brazil, Romania, France, and Spain.
Bodhini, a Sri Lankan student enrolled in a post-MD clinical training course at ITRA, expressed that the program has enriched her with invaluable insights beneficial to both her and her homeland.
Buddhika, a postgraduate from the University of Colombo, shared her experience of participating in various training sessions during the course, which expanded her knowledge. She conveyed her gratitude to the institute's staff and thanked India for the opportunity to study as a Sri Lankan national.
ITRA Director Dr. Tanuja Nesari revealed plans for a Global Centre for Traditional Medicine being constructed on campus. She mentioned that Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM), over 70% of which is now completed. The centre is expected to be inaugurated by December, with attendance from Prime Minister Modi, senior WHO officials, and dignitaries from various nations. This centre will serve as a prestigious contribution from India to the global community and a significant asset for Jamnagar.
Dr. Geetha Krishnan Gopalakrishna Pillai, Head of the Traditional Medicine Research and Evidence Unit at ITRA, shared exciting news: the WHO building will soon become home to the world’s largest Ayurveda research and information centre.
