Jammu, Nov 20 (NationPress) The Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, asserted on Thursday that Jammu is swiftly evolving into a pivotal trade and logistics hub, linking Ladakh and the Kashmir valley to the nation's main trade routes.
He emphasized that the substantial enhancement in road and rail connectivity over the past five years has unleashed the region's vast potential.
“The advancements in storage, multimodal connectivity, logistics capabilities, and last-mile connectivity have ensured that remote areas are integrated into the broader development framework. The rise of e-commerce and the expanding retail sector are significantly contributing to the growth of the warehousing and logistics industries,” he stated during the Jammu Trade and Logistics Conclave-2025, hosted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
He urged the necessity of addressing the developmental requirements of Jammu and Kashmir through innovative logistics infrastructure and enhanced logistics operations.
“An efficient storage, logistics, and warehousing ecosystem is crucial for driving our economy towards self-sufficiency, directly connecting producers to consumers, and meeting the aspirations of our traders, industrialists, farmers, artisans, and MSMEs,” he remarked.
He also announced that the Jammu & Kashmir Logistics Policy 2025 will be launched soon, with a new policy initiative aimed at creating a comprehensive framework that emphasizes multimodal connectivity, the establishment of dry ports and warehousing areas, and the encouragement of private sector involvement.
Under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP), he noted that 49 significant logistics and connectivity projects, valued at Rs 3,000 crore, have already been identified, facilitating real-time coordination and expedited execution.
He mentioned that this integrated planning strategy is aiding J&K in pinpointing logistics deficiencies, enhancing last-mile connectivity to industrial zones, optimizing freight transport, and considerably lowering logistics expenses and transit durations.
Additionally, he asserted that a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) will be established in Vijaypur, Jammu, through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, adopting a Build-Develop-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) approach.
