Patna, March 18 (NationPress) As tensions rise in the Uttam Nagar region of West Delhi, Congress MP Mohammad Jawed from Kishanganj has reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging for swift intervention and bolstered security protocols.

In his correspondence, Jawed articulated his grave concerns regarding the escalating situation, especially considering the ongoing holy month of Ramadan and the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

He highlighted that individuals from a specific community are encountering threats and intimidation, with reports indicating that certain groups have been advised against partaking in the festival.

“I am compelled to express my profound concern and urgency regarding the alarming occurrences in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, where members of the Muslim community are subjected to overt threats, intimidation, and a systematic effort to instill fear in their everyday lives,” stated Jawed.

He further asserted that the circumstances transcend a mere law-and-order dilemma.

“What is currently unfolding is not an isolated event but a recurring pattern of targeted animosity that raises significant doubts about the State's capacity and commitment to safeguard all citizens without discrimination. Public threats, incendiary slogans, and the dissemination of hateful rhetoric have fostered an environment where a segment of Indian citizens feels endangered in the national capital,” he elaborated.

Jawed also expressed his apprehensions regarding the actions of law enforcement, noting that any perceived lack of response could erode public trust.

“When threats are made so openly and yet remain unchecked, it diminishes public confidence in law enforcement and empowers those intent on disrupting communal peace,” he remarked.

In reference to constitutional protections, the MP pointed out that Articles 14, 19, and 21 guarantee equality, freedom, and the right to a dignified existence.

“These fundamental rights seem to be under pressure in Uttam Nagar today,” he commented.

In his appeal, Jawed urged the Home Minister to take prompt notice of the situation, ensure accountability for any shortcomings, and instruct the Delhi Police to take decisive and impartial action against those propagating hatred or attempting to incite communal discord.

He also called for an independent evaluation of police responses to address concerns of bias or inaction.

“The silence or delay from the State during such critical moments sends a perilous message that intimidation can supersede law, and fear can overshadow rights. Such a situation must not be permitted in a constitutional democracy,” he asserted.

The unrest in Uttam Nagar reportedly intensified following an incident during Holi, where a youth was allegedly attacked and killed by a group, prompting disturbances in the locality.
